Set up payments with Stripe

For anyone who wants to sell paid tickets.

Your sales come straight to you: Smappo never touches your money. To receive them you open a Stripe account, and you do it all inside Smappo, without going to Stripe's website.

Before you start you'll need: a valid ID document, your tax identification number, and the bank account (IBAN or sort code and account number) where you want to receive the money. If you're a company or an association, also the organisation's details and those of its legal representative.

  1. Open Sales from the menu.
  2. In the Billing details tab answer whether you're VAT registered: if so, write the number and we check it straight away. Without these details you can't sell paid tickets.
  3. Press Set up payments: the Stripe account opens in your account's country.
  4. Fill in Stripe's form: type of business, personal details, ID, bank account. You can stop and pick up later, your details stay saved.
  5. Wait for the check: usually a few minutes, sometimes a few days. When the status becomes Active, you can sell.

If your ID doesn't go through: photograph the original in colour, whole, on a dark surface and in good light. Check it hasn't expired and that your name and date of birth are written exactly as on the document.

Good to know

  • You can prepare your event and tickets while Stripe checks your details.
  • The country can't be changed after activation: it's a Stripe rule.
  • An individual or an association without VAT registration? Stripe allows it in many countries, but how to declare your sales depends on your situation: ask your accountant.
  • Smappo doesn't see your documents: only Stripe receives and checks them.

The invoice for the fees

A week after each event we email you the invoice for Smappo's fees, with their VAT: it's already paid, because we took them from your sales at each sale. You'll also find it in Sales › Documents. Pass it on to whoever does your accounts, together with the event's sales.
